This Chair is for the Birds

Tomorrow we are decorating a tree for the Everett Providence Hospital's Festival of Trees. We always have a great time on decorating day and I'm looking forward to it. Our theme this year is a bird tree and today I worked on making this prop to sit next to the tree...I hope it looks okay...

Santa Sighting

Twas the morning after Thanksgiving when all through the city not a creature was stirring not even a kitty. The stores were all decorated by the shopkeepers with care in hopes that customers soon would be there. When what to my wondering eyes should appear but a jolly Santa and all his gear.
More rapid than eagles the shoppers they came and we greeted them and called them by name. They shopped all day and into the night buying presents and goodies which brought such delight.

I heard all of us at Joyworks exclaim as they drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night."

Paper Birds

I found this paper bird pattern in the new Better Homes and Gardens Special 2008 Christmas Idea magazine and thought that they would be fun to make.

They turned out pretty cute--I made them out of vintage music, wrapping paper, and wall paper.

Home for the Holidays

Enjoy a festive day in Snohomish on November 28th...the day after Thanksgiving. This is such a fun day to bring family and friends to the historical downtown. The stores are all decorated for Christmas and it feels so festive. Santa comes for a visit and you might even see a caroler or two. The stores are open late and many of them are offering special sales.

Joyworks is open from 10:00am until 9:00pm and we will have 10% off everything in the store from 4:00-9:00. This time of the year the store looks so pretty with all the decorated trees, glittering displays, and twinkle lights.

Hollywood Glamour

This lovely window was created by Jill and myself. Our inspiration was a vintage Hollywood dressing room fit for a star. We have a sparkling silver tree decorated with diamonds, jewels, hand mirrors and crowns. Next to the tree is a dressing table filled with mercury vases, perfume bottles, and lots of jewelry. Of course this room wouldn't be complete without a chandelier or two. Even the silver deer under the tree are looking festive in their fur and pearls.

Window Dressing

Amy did a great job decorating this cute pink and black holiday clothing window. The window is sparkling with a pink metallic tree full of black, pink, and gold ornaments. This holiday season we have a nice variety of festive items in our clothing boutique. We have velvets, satins, blouses, coats, dresses, hats, gloves, purses, scarves, diamonds and pearls.

Let's Reflect

Lately I've been collecting vintage Christmas tree light reflectors. They not only brighten up your tree but are also fun to craft with. I made these ornaments by gluing paper images to the backs of glass rocks and applying them to the reflectors. You can also put glass balls in the middle to create instant Christmas flowers.

Amy and Sandi decorated our adorable baby window. This year we have really cute little Christmas outfits in red and green for babies with matching socks.

Glitterville

This beautiful window is filled with vintage inspired pastel houses, trees, snowmen, and Santa creating a glittering snow village. In the background hangs a wonderful large wreath that we made out of vintage glass Christmas ball ornaments. We made this wreath about 5 years ago using over 200 balls and now it has become a tradition to hang it up every year.

Sweater Snowman

This year we made a snowman out of cream knit sweaters for one of our window displays. I collected men's sweaters from thrift stores during the year and we wrapped them around round objects in the three sizes. We stiched on the face, made a cute hat, added some buttons and threw on a scarf. We were all pleased with how the snowman turned out...

Here Kitty Kitty...

Look what I found on my porch this afternoon...a sweater kitty.

Snow on the Go!

When I was junking the other day I found this child's red skate. I immediately thought it would be cute with a snowman and a candle on it. A few years ago I made this snowman and it fit perfectly. At Joyworks we carry many varieties of battery operated candles which are great to put where you can't put a real candle.

It's almost time for Christmas. Last week we decorated a tree with clocks and traditional vintage inspired ornaments. This beautiful tree is filled with Santa's, bells, skates, mittens, postcard ornaments, houses, glittered signs and much more.

Silver Bells

Ring in the holidays with a tree decorated with beautiful bells. I decorated this silver tree with a jingle bell garland, mini white bells, music ribbon, musical note ornaments, and large silver glittered jingle bells. Lately we have been collecting vintage Christmas music which looks great in displays ...especially on a music stand.

Get your Stripes

Zebra prints in home and fashion are always fun. Today I painted this chair white and added the zebra fabric...very cool! It will be perfect for our Christmas clothing window sitting next to a pink metallic tree. In this window we also will be featuring cute pink and black holiday outfits with great accessories.

Shiny Brite Tree

One of my favorite things that I bought today at the show was a shiny brite tree for $5.00. After I paid for it the vendor said that came in it's original box. I was thrilled! The kit includes a knitting needle, a square of cardboard with a hole in it for the base,8 large shiny brites, 8 small shiny brites, and a tree topper. I love it!! Hmm... maybe I'll make some more...

Saturday Morning

Today Jill, Mom, and I went to the Craven's Vintage Holiday Antique Show out at the farm. We all collect vintage Christmas so we had great fun finding lots of treasures.

Mom and I bought quite a few things from the table below... just a few bags full.

Jill is holding the cute Santa that she bought today.

The Mermaid Chair

Over the years we have made many mannequins to match our displays. Yesterday our shell girl turned into a mermaid. We made her tail out of vintage fabric and beaded pearl and sequin trim. Then I made a starfish and pearl crown to match.

Our little mermaid is sitting proudly next to our tree... under the sea.

What a Treat!

On Saturday Nikki Briola and her friends visited our store. Nikki's outfit was adorable and we just had to take her picture next to our candy, cookie, and cupcake display. Doesn't she look sweet in her pastry print petticoat ...

A quick way to make an ice cream cone ornament is to hot glue a glass Christmas ornament to a sugar cone and embellish with glass beads and glitter.

Winner!

I found these plastic trophies in my travels and knew they would be cute covered in silver glitter. I filled them with vintage treasures and they won my heart.
