Blog Party

Today at Joyworks it felt like a blog party. First Connie came in and told me that she has a blog www.constantlyvintage.blogspot.com and that her sister also has a blog www.timeflyssew.blogspot.com
Then we discovered that Kelly Rae Roberts, the artist of the new pictures that we just got in and love, has a blog and lives in Seattle....

Later while we were talking about blogs at the counter, Elaine told us that she has a blog and makes charms www.tinkerverve.wordpress
Blogging is such a great way to share your talents with others. I love to see what other's create and it's especially fun when they are local...Blog Local! :)

Quick Spring Makeovers

At Joyworks as we get in new product it's a great time to makeover some of our displays. We have a nice variety of herbs, ferns, moss and topiaries which are perfect for adding a touch of spring.

Farmhouse Chic

Also you can get a quick spring makeover by adding bright spring flowers, bowls, and pretty linens.

Party Hats

Amada Lebel from Over the Top Studios came to visit Snohomish on Saturday and took some nice pictures of stores in town including Joyworks . She makes party hats and pretty little things.
You will have to check out her new blog at Overthetopstudios.typepad.com
Lately I've been inspired to create using mixed media. Tonight I painted a bird on sheet music and embellished with pieces that I cut up from a card catalog...

Display of the Day

I'm always looking for decorating ideas and today at the Seattle Gift Show this booth by J Pedersen delivered. It was beautifully decorated with a European flair using wrought iron furniture, arbors, trellises, cast iron urns, and chandeliers.

I loved how they used old glass paneled doors to make a screen. We have a few hanging around Joyworks and I think we might have to put them together.

I think the idea of covering shelves and walls with vintage paper creates a great look.

Queen of Hearts

Today as we stayed inside and watched the snowflakes fall, I made a crown perfect for Valentine's Day.

I've been tagged by The Crowned Casa and need to tell 6 interesting things about me that you might not know...hmmmm... let's see...
1. I was a magician's assistant and could escape out of a box.
2. I have a marketing degree from Seattle Pacific University.
3. I sold computers for many years before I came to Joyworks.
4. I love to travel and have been to many fun and exotic places.
My husband and I are currently planning a trip to Brazil.
5. I love going out in our little boat--someday soon we plan to get a bigger one.
6. I'm a licensed scuba diver.

The Price is Right

We are just starting to get in all the new spring merchandise. After we unpack all the boxes, the products need to be priced, which is a big job! I was looking through my vintage graphics tonight and came across a book with this wonderful page of suggestions for price tickets from 1947. They are so cute and the prices were quite reasonable...

Peacock Park

One of our favorite booths at the Atlanta Show was Peacock Park. It was over the top decorated with a great mix of French and garden. We loved everything and think it will be a fun addition to our store mix.

The girls were such a delight to work with.

I can't wait to get in these postcard pillows...

Maybe my brother will make us a cute garden shed for the store...

Celebration

My husband Dean just moved to Keller Williams Realty and tonight they had a grand opening celebration of their new office in Seattle.

Dean now has a nice new office which he is sharing with another agent. The other day she decorated her side with some pictures and a plant. Dean was very happy to see that they were nice pictures of buildings and a house. Tonight when I met her and told her that she had done a good job decorating, she told me that she was glad Dean liked it because she considered using a large picture of a white kitty in a wicker chair... too funny!!

As you can see we need to decorate Dean's desk area...

Thrift Store Crafting

When I go to the thrift store I always check out the craft supply section. Yesterday I found an unused spool of this wired pink bead garland and knew it would make great hearts for Valentine's Day. I haven't looked in the book area lately so I thought I would see if I could find some vintage sheet music...and there it was...
"Room full of Roses"...how lucky is that!

Today we are going back for the half off sale. I hope the vintage bike is still there. It will make a great spring window display...maybe I'll paint it pink...

Fun with Paper Doilies

Simple and easy craft for Valentine's Day.

Take some heart paper doilies and wrap them into cones. Glue in a few places and embellish with ribbons, paper flowers, etc... and fill them with Valentine treats.

I also took four doilies -- first accordian fold them, then fold them in half and glue together. Add something cute to the middle and embellish.

Have fun!!

Shop 'til you drop...

Mom and I just got back from the gift show in Atlanta. We were there for a week and found lots of great new product for the store. I'm always amazed by the beautiful displays and get very inspired to freshen up the store. Every year I come back wanting to paint the walls, build new dispays, move furniture around, and craft for the store.
Here are a few pictures from our buying trip.

Cupcakes for Jana

Before Jana headed to Atlanta we ordered on line a pattern for me to make these darling cupcakes. I wasn't sure if I was up to the challenge or not, but as you can see I succeeded. I need to add a few more embellishments, but I thought they turned out pretty cute. So surprise Jana, I did it !!!

Welcome home too.

You'll be Bowled Over

We had a delivery today of bowls in all colors and fun textures. They range in price from $10.99 up to $20.99 and go great with all the new kitchen towels we also received today.

This set has a basket weave design on the side and is in great pastel colors. Perfect for a kitchen pick-me-up.

Red ones nest together and are a must for those that love red in your kitchen.

This pink batter bowl is very fun. It has some of the new towels nested in it that we also got in this week.

Here we go again...

Snow...snow...snow... It started this afternoon and hasn't stopped. My little house does look quite charming in the snow.

Playing in the snow...

Mom and I are going to the Atlanta Gift Market on Tuesday and will spend a week shopping. We hope to find lots of great new product for the store. It will be fun to see what's new and hot for 2009. There are three large buildings with many floors...we work long hours and don't even see it all.

As you can see there is lots of ground to cover. We've been going to the Atlanta show for at least 15 years and we are always ready to go again.
