In Transition...

Autumn marks the transition of Summer to Winter.
I've painted and glittered pumpkins but never covered them in vintage paper...It was so easy to do...just like paper mache.
As much as I hate Summer to end, I always look forward to Fall.

A Touch of Burlap

Today at the Sand Point Antique Market, I treated myself to a very cute soft burlap pillow--Love the shape and the vintage flower detail. I have been wanting one for awhile and always thought that I would make one...well that hasn't happened... but buying this one has inspired me to make more with Jill's help... :)
My house is already decorated with the cream colors so burlap fits right in.

I could put it on my bed ...

Or on a bench for warm summer evenings...

Or on my new linen colored sofa which I hope to have soon...

Look Pretty in Pink this Fall.
It's such a bright and happy color and looks great with charcoal gray.

My favorite new shirt...it has ruffles!

Cute purses and accessories.

Great rose colored jacket...

Well I better go... it's almost time for Project Runway!

This year the colors for Fall Fashion are so Fabulous...
One of the trends are the colors of Peacock Feathers!

Beautiful Blues...

Teal

Brown and Green...Plaids are very popular.

Bright Green and Navy Blue

Olive

Pretty Purples

They all go great with Denim...and Black...and Charcoal.

Walk proud with a little feather in your cap...
and don't forget your scarf.

(Crown picture is taken from the Crown & Tiaras book...however we plan on making one like it for a tree topper on a peacock theme tree.)

Green with Envy

On Sunday I was doing some yard work and I peered over the fence to see my neighbor Farmer Sid's garden. He had beautiful sunflowers, squash, and rows of green tomatoes. Just when I was thinking that I should have planted a vegetable garden, Farmer Sid poked his head out from behind a tomato plant and asked me if I liked green tomatoes. I told him that I wasn't sure, but I would give them a try and figured if nothing else they would look good in my green kitchen.

He told me to just fry them in butter and add salt and pepper.
So I took my green tomatoes, sliced them, and fried them in a pan with lots of butter.
Don't they look delicious...I bet you're envious of me now... :)
Well, I don't claim to be a good cook...they tasted okay... but...

Does anybody have a good recipe for fried green tomatoes?

Can Do Attitude

For many years I have decorated the tables for the Snohomish Chamber Barbecue. This year I thought...What can I do? Then it came to me...it would be fun to make arrangements in cans.

I emptied soup cans and filled them with beautiful flowers from the local farmer's market.

I also used large cans from the restaurant next door for risers and bigger arrangements.

Using cans as vases was cost effective and it looks like I will be making a large batch of potato soup with all my chicken stock this weekend.

Change of Seasons

As the days of summer come to an end, I have been thinking about ways to change displays at the store to fall. I thought that it would be fun to create a large display of vintage paper leaves over the counter.
Just when I started to look for shapes, my friend Ann came into the store with this great book she wanted to sell. I couldn't believe my luck...it was a vintage book on leaves!

Here are a few I made last night.

I love this new burlap ribbon that come in today.

I simply made a bow and added it to a pillow...a quick change for fall!
